Most customers do not need to manage DNS manually
When a Kiyo-managed domain is connected to Kiyo Hosting, Kiyo applies the service connection automatically where possible. Start with Connect your domain rather than editing technical records.
When you may need advanced settings
- Connecting a service hosted outside Kiyo
- Verifying the domain for another platform
- Directing a subdomain to a different service
- Using a separate email provider
Advanced details: DNS records
DNS records are instructions that tell a domain where services live. An A record points to an internet address, a CNAME points one name to another, and an MX record directs email. Kiyo explains the purpose beside the field when you add one.
Advanced details: nameservers
Nameservers decide which provider holds the active DNS instructions. Changing them hands control of those instructions to another provider and can affect the website or other connected services.
Before changing records
- Copy the exact value supplied by the service you are connecting.
- Check whether an existing record with the same name will be replaced.
- Save one intended change at a time.
- Allow the change to update, then verify the service.
