Transfers

How domain transfers work

A plain-English explanation of what happens while domain management moves to Kiyo.

The domain stays the same

A transfer changes the company that manages the domain. The domain does not disappear, and ownership is not sold or changed simply because management moves.

The transfer sequence

  1. Kiyo checks whether the domain can be transferred.
  2. You confirm that you have access and permission to move it.
  3. The current provider receives or processes the release request.
  4. The transfer moves through the required provider checks.
  5. Kiyo becomes the management provider.
  6. The domain appears as managed in your Kiyo account.

What Kiyo handles

  • The initial eligibility check
  • The transfer request and provider communication
  • Clear status updates
  • Renewal and pricing information
  • Adding the completed domain to your account

What you may need to do

  • Unlock the domain for transfer if required
  • Provide a transfer code
  • Approve a message from the current provider
  • Correct an outdated contact email
  • Respond when Kiyo shows Action required

Advanced details

Technical transfer terms and messages can differ between domain extensions and providers. Kiyo translates the provider response into a clear status, while the underlying detail remains available when support or an experienced customer needs it.
