What a domain transfer means

A domain transfer moves management of an existing domain from another provider to Kiyo. After completion, renewal, contact information and domain settings are managed from your Kiyo account.

What a transfer does not mean

• It does not rebuild your website
• It does not change website content
• It does not necessarily change hosting
• It does not buy a new domain or change its owner

Connecting and transferring are different

Connecting a domain keeps management and renewal with the current provider but points the domain to Kiyo Hosting.

Transferring moves domain management and future renewals to Kiyo. You can connect without transferring, or transfer later when it suits you.

When a transfer makes sense

• You want hosting and domain management in one place
• You want clearer renewal management in your Kiyo account
• You want Kiyo Support to help with domain management
• You want fewer separate provider accounts

When a transfer is not necessary

• You only want to use Kiyo Hosting
• You prefer to keep the current domain provider
• The domain is temporarily restricted from transfer
• You want to complete a website move before changing domain management

Before you start

• Make sure you can access the current domain provider account
• Confirm the domain contact email is current
• Check whether the domain is eligible to transfer
• Obtain a transfer code if the domain requires one
• Review the renewal date and any urgent renewal action
