What a security key is
A security key is a physical device used to confirm sign-in. It can provide strong protection against phishing because the key checks that it is communicating with the real Kiyo website before approving access.
Compatible forms
A compatible key can connect through USB-C or use NFC for a supported phone or computer. This guide is provider-neutral and does not require a specific third-party brand.
Add a key
Register the key
- Open Security keys in the Kiyo account.
- Choose Add security key.
- Insert or tap the compatible key when prompted.
- Confirm the registration on the device.
- Give it a clear name such as Office key or Backup key.
Keep a backup method
Where possible, register a primary and backup key and keep them in separate secure places. Losing one key should not mean losing the account when another registered method or secure recovery route remains.
Advanced details
Compatible keys commonly use standards called WebAuthn and FIDO2. You do not need to understand these standards to register and use the device.
